“Follow me…”

June 5, 2005   10th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A) - Green

First Reading: Hosea 6:3-6
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 50
"To the upright, I will show the saving power of God."
Second Reading:
Romans 4:18-25
Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13

"Follow me."
A short and simple sentence yet very powerful. "Follow me!" Jesus, in today’s Gospel, calls the sinner Matthew to the road of discipleship. Jesus calls sinners. He doesn’t call people who are righteous yet very traditional in word and action, like the Jewish leaders. He calls sinners to his ministry, to lead his flock. He converts the sinners and readily forgives them, if they are willing to give up their sinful lives for the work of the Gospel. This is the simple message Jesus presents to us this Sunday - he calls the sinners to his ministry, to his Church, but not the righteous, though they are mostly welcomed.

Jesus calls us, "Follow me!" Are we ready to follow Jesus on the way to discipleship?

Living as Christians

Let us follow Christ on the way to discipleship. Let us help in the Church ministries as laborers in the vineyard of the Lord.
